The LN series braking resistor units are often used with AC VFD's to produce a braking torque in the motor during overhauling conditions. The dynamic braking resistor is connected across the DC bus and will see voltages as high as 800 volts. They can divert the regenerative energy which is produced in the process of braking of the motor, into a braking resistor, converting that energy into heat.
The external design of the expansion modules is identical to the compact case of the LN series so that the installation can be performed easily in the switch cabinet next to the main module.
